During my wanderings, I found myself at the Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada. I have seen many images from people who have been there, so admittedly, I wasn’t a bit surprised that the highest visited areas are what show up in searches. (Do a search and you will find some brilliant images of this area.)
Made up of lots of red hills and small mountains; the map handed out gives you pointed directions to these areas. (The current entrance fee into the state park is $10.) Although, even without the map, they can be easily found. There is a 2 mile ‘scenic loop’ you can drive; pull over and take photos. You will see things like the ‘seven sisters’, the petrified logs or you can stop in at the visitor’s center. (I didn’t do this, as it was packed and I had my dog with me. Animals are not allowed in the center and the high heat is not worth risking your beloved pet for.)
A great place to visit when the summer heat is not at its highest. The colors are brilliant and the landscape brings a life of its own to your imagination. You can see the faces in the hills and mountains if you are looking for them. With many wonderful areas to pull over and just be a part of the desert landscape and nature. Just make sure to bring along good hiking shoes and some water if you plan on roaming the area.
